Reboot 2, Day 5

One week almost down.  At least the work week is over!  Kinda been a rough day since my current property owner 'accidently' double drafted my account for this month's rent.

Not good.

I also made the nastiest, non-beet based, drink yet... it involved parsley.

I will try to remember and get Brian to do another video for our YouTube channel this weekend.  It's been too long since our last one for sure.  I've also decided to cut my juice-only fast short to 15 days... with the remainder (15) being 80% juice per day.  I'm exercising more and need the energy to do it.  Not to mention that I'm not particularly feeling the good vibes I got from it last time.  I'm fairly comfortable with where I'm at now and how much I've accomplished since August.

Reboot 2, Day 4

Well yesterday was a poop.  That's right... a poop.

I felt generally dysphoric and uncomfortable for the majority of the day.  Not hungry... just anxious and uncomfortable.  I'm feeling a little better now, this morning, but I may end up changing my plans from a 30 Day juice fast to a 10-Day... I can extend later if I really start feeling better about it.

The fact of the matter is that I already had a good reboot and now I'm just doing it to lose weight.  Although losing massive amounts of weight is a primary side effect to rebooting... it's not why one should reboot altogether.

I may cut this one short and just adopt a high-micronutrient based diet for a while.  Even if that means making juice for half of my meals and sticking to legumes/nuts/seeds for the rest.  I really shouldn't be in any rush to drop the pounds.. it took me a decade to put them on.

I'm real happy with where I've gotten and look forward to dropping more until I reach my ideal weight...

...which may not take just a month.

Day 4 Weigh-In: 248lbs

Reboot 2, Day 3

Hey Folks!

Day 3 and feeling better.  Had a good night last night and looking forward to the weekend already... just gotta get over this hump day!  I think i'll start today with a light kale and apple juice with a shot of ginger.  I'll probably just end up swinging by a Whole Foods today for lunch to get another juice.

Just got to resist that temptation to grab a slice of pizza while I'm there lol.

So here we are, continuing on strong.  I should also mention I took the new bike out to a local path for a 7-mile ride.  Boy was that fun.  Fun except a little spill right in front of a cute girl.  That's my luck for ya lol.  Oh well, it was a fun trip and I think I'll make it a regular visit since it's so convenient to the work HQ.

Until next time... Auf Wiedersehen!

Reboot 2, Day 2

Here we go!  It's Day 2 and going strong.  I didn't have enough juice yesterday and probably not enough water. That might explain the strange dreams from last night.

In addition to the strange dreams I also woke up a few times feeling something I can only describe as a form of consternation.  I would also describe it as waking suddenly with that feeling you left the oven on at home while you're on vaction... so that wasn't all too fun.

Anyway, hoping today/tonight fair better for me.  Last night I wasn't very hungry and neither am I this morning.  Not sure why, but maybe I'm over the hunger already... or it hasn't sunk in yet.  Beats me.

Either way, here we are.  Day 2.

Reboot 2, Day-2: 250lbs

Reboot 2, Day 1

Ok... so apparently Brian and I have gotten lazy when it comes to update videos.  We're sorry for that, but I promise I'll have something for you next week!  Especially now that we're undertaking a 2nd Reboot!  That's right!  This will only be 30 days this time.  I will, as before, try to update daily on the progress.

After the Q&A with Joe Cross, Brian and I have learned some more fascinating details about juicing and where we might not have really gotten all we could've out of ours.  The occasional cheats, it seems, breaks the fast and reintroduces hunger as well as your body's process of storing fat.  So absolutely no cheats this time.  Even if that means going some time without juice or food at all.  Now that we both have juicers there should be no excuses.

For all those out there, both of you, thanks for the encouragement and if you are rebooting as well... Congrats!  I support you in spirit and offer my chronicle here of experience as a helpful guide in whatever form it can.  Juice on!

Original Weight: August 10, 2011 - 305lbs

Reboot 2 Starting Weight, Day-1: 255lbs

Edit:  It is now the end of Day 1 and it wasn't too bad today.  Got home and went to bed for a few hours to help stave off the hunger pains... but feeling decent overall.  I expect tomorrow/(day after) to be a little tougher as my body starts to yearn for dietary fiber and the usual energy sustenance.  But looking forward to Day 4+ when that goes away and the peaceful feelings begin.

Post-DAY 60

So we (Brian and Myself) apologize for being really bad bloggers and not keeping everyone up to date as well as no videos.  We've been celebrating and living it up!  We've both decided to continue with another juice fast as of tomorrow (Monday, Oct. 23) for a couple weeks.  The break has been fun, but old habits and old problems are creeping back up and I'm jazzed to start back and drop more poundage and feel even better!

Thanks to everyone who has followed along and helped with the encouragement.  I hope you guys/gals will keep it coming and check in from time to time.  I've still got about 35lbs to go to reach my ultimate goal of 220.  Hopefully by the early part of next year.  I've dropped the bulk, now time for the chunk, and eventually the trim up.  I'll try to update frequently.

DAY 52/53/54/55

Getting way too lax on updating this thing as of late.  Been real busy and not-home all week.  Finally finished the video which I'll probably upload before going to bed.  I feel real bad as this week has turned out to be an off-the-wagon week for me.  No money and cheap high-calorie food to stave off hunger have left me feeling bloated, tired, and in a general state of melancholy.

I get paid tomorrow so I intend to do right this weekend and next week.  I don't know if I will join Brian on a full 15-day continuation after Day-60... but I will be doing another reboot before the end of the year for sure.  Until then it's going to be a juice/mix diet focusing primarily on micronutrient foods, juices, and as few simple carbs, high fat, and high-sodium foods as I can.

I will also be forgoing the regular updates until the final day so it will be a surprise lol.

DAY 48/49/50/51

Sorry for the extreme delay, but been busy and out and about with Brian this weekend as well as lots of travel and playing Monopoly hours on end.

Don't have any stats, but gained a pound since last week and same waist size.

I will try to get the video up by Tuesday.

************VIDEO UPDATE**************
Click Here!  (there's even a snazzy animation lol)

Pretty good this week so far although it's had it's ups and downs.  I'm about to head out to the gym for my late night workout.  I'll probably update this post when I get back if the video is up.

(update)
I'm back from the gym and the video is up as you can see above!  15,000 steps today and feeling relaxed (even though it's way too late for normal folks).

DAY 42

Day 42 went pretty good... except... I have a confession to make.  I was at Whole Foods getting some produce for a batch of juice and found myself summoned by the sirens' call at the other side of the store: The side that has fresh oven baked pizza.  The temptation, and my growing hunger, led me to purchase a slice of salami and cheese pizza.  It was incredibly fresh and delicious but carried the rather unsavory flavor of guilt.

I will not be detered from the goal though!  Sometimes we trip and fall but it's jumping back on the saddle that's important.

Weight: unknown

Consumed:  Carrot-Lime-Spinach juice, a banana, a salad, and a large slice of pizza.

Rating: 7.5/10

DAY 41

So I worked a little bit with one of Brian's recipes this morning.. and came up with my favorite juice yet.  Here's the recipe:

1 pound of Carrots (ends chopped and peeled)
1 Cucumber (also peeled)
1 Medium Handful of Spinach (cold washed)
1 Golden Delicious Medium Sized Apple
1 Red Delicious Medium Sized Apple
1 Whole Small Lime
1 Thumb Ginger (peeled)
1 Cup water
--mint to taste--

This was fantastic!  As good as any V8 Splash from the store and a million times healthier!

Other than that, same as usual.  Excited about the weekend... since it's the time in-between workdays lol.  Will keep this thing updated as I can.

Weight: 258lbs (unofficial)

Consumed:  Mean Green and Carrot-Spinach-Lime.

Rating: 8.5/10

DAY 40

*****Note.. new picture to the right.  That was taken a couple days ago ****

2/3rds the way through folks!  I gotta tell ya, it feels good too!

Not much to report for the day, just glad the work week is over the hump and the weekend approaches!  Looking forward to it and getting closer to Day-60!

Weight: 258lbs (unofficial)

Consumed: Mean Green and Carrot-Lime with some extras.  Also worked in some prunes and a small cucumber salad.

Rating:  8/10

DAY 39

Tomorrow will mark the 2/3rds the way through mark!  Feeling good and enjoying my trips to the gym.  I was in there today and The Biggest Loser was on.  What they do is just sad... sure it has great immediate results- but none of that is sustainable (for the vast majority).  Sure I know what you might be thinking:

"Isn't a crash juicing diet and losing 3-5lbs a week another form of the same monster? A temporary fix?"

The answer is yes and no.  Yes it is temporary and no-doubt a 'crash' diet.  But for those of us who are incredibly overweight- it's the jump-start or 'reboot', if you will, that gets the ball rolling.  During these 60-days, Brian and I are learning more and more about nutrition, good habits, good foods, and at the same time we're building a familiarity with produce as opposed to meaty processed products.  We'll have 2-3 weeks of a recovery period where we mix in nuts, beans, seeds, etc... and then start working in mean slowly and carefully.  Eventually it will incur a lifelong diet of moderation that fits our lifestyles and needs instead of cravings and indulgence.

When you jump-start a car, you're not powering it for good but giving it the boost it needs to run on it's own again.  That's how I'm treating this... as my jump-start to the healthy life I need and deserve.

Enough banter... I just wanted to lay that down on the blog tonight.

Weight: 259lbs (unofficial)

Consumed: Green Juice, Gazpacho Juice, small salad, broccoli, a banana, and an apple.

*********NEW VIDEO***********
Click Here to Check it Out!

The day is winding down and I'm cranking this out before I take my night trip to the gym for an hour of music, sweat, and liberation.  It always makes going to sleep easier so I definitely love that part haha.

So yeah, new video is up so don't forget to check it out and chime in if you please!  We love feedback as it makes us feel somewhat important in the grand scheme of things.

DAY 35/36

So I went to Brian's Friday night and thus have have spent way too much time not blogging.  Spent done time experimenting with the mean green recipe and had some decent results I think.

DAY 34

Got more juice in today, 2 full batches to be exact!  Weening off the solid raw produce is somewhat more difficult than I had expected... but biting into a crisp apple is really causing me to crave a little bit now lol.

Taking the day off from exercise for 'recovery'.  Want to go but the arms are really sore and so is my behind.

Not much else to report except my blood pressure has dropped over the last month...  Was around 144/95 and now it's around 125/77.

Time to go turn on some light classical with a hint of rain and go to sleep a bit earlier than normal for me.

Weight: 264lbs (unofficial) *Note:  Cumulative loss of 40lbs!

Consumed: Mean Green, Carrot-lime, Pineapple, some celery, and lightly salted cucumber.

Rating: 8.5/10

DAY 33

Whew... just got back from the gym and feeling pretty relaxed.  Gonna hit the shower and get to bed for a good rest.  Remember cats and kittens... it's the long sleep that allows the body to build muscle and all that biochemical magics!

Anyway, it was a good day, drank more juice and ate less solid raw foods.  Trying to ween myself of of these delicious Pink Lady Apples is pretty hard though...

**On a side note, I experimented with some tomatoes and sweet onion today in the juicer.  I will most likely not be doing that again anytime soon lol**

Weight: 265lbs (unofficial)

Consumed:  Carrot-Lime blend, Naked Juice, 2 Apples, 1 Banana, and some fresh pineapple juice.

Rating: 8.5/10

DAY 32

So glad to be over with that kidney stone from last week.  Went to the gym yesterday and today (just got back fyi) and spent around 45m/1h each time getting in some good cardio and a little time on the weights for fun.

An observation I've made is that since I've started working out my weight hasn't really changed (for the last week or so).  I remember from the last time I lost weight the same thing seemed to happen... 2 weeks and not a pound dropped.... but after that it started coming off again.  So, not worried about that and not going to let it get me down.  I'm still on the good track and feeling better every day.

Weight: 266 (unofficial)

Consumed: The usual suspects.  Probably too much ranch with the salad and broccoli though.

Rating: 8.5/10

DAY 30/31

 **********NEW VIDEO UPLOADED***********

Sorry again for the delay, but yesterday was rather hectic and it was video editing or winding down... I chose the latter.  The newest video is up and has the latest official weigh-in as well as our addressing some of the comments/questions we saw this week.

Today was pretty decent, work as usual.  Tonight I did whip up Brian's newest awesome recipe which is a carrot based drink:

1 bag worth of carrots
1 lime
1 cucumber
2 apples
and some ginger

It's pretty good and I will save the rest for the morning.

Weight: 266lbs (unofficial)

Consumed:  Carrot drink, couple apples, a couple kiwis, a banana, a salad, and a large head of broccoli.

Rating: 8/10

DAY 28/29

Sorry for my absence the last couple days..  but both recovering from the kidney stone and busy-ness has kept me pretty occupied.

Been pretty good and will be meeting up with Brian later today (Sunday) to record our 30-DAY success video!

More to come later!

Weight:  unknown

Consumed:  variety of things including my new favorite carrot-based juice and salads galore

DAY 27

Today has been horrible!  I think I have another kidney stone... At least the symptoms are swinging that way.

I really hope this passes for the weekend.  Weekends ruined be kidney stones just suck!

Details Uncertain

(update) Just passed the stone.

Day 26

Day 26 was pretty hard.  Had a kale based juice on Tuesday night and yesterday I had some of the worst pain in the lower abdomen (toward the back) similar to the kidney area pain I had when I first started this thing 26 days ago.  I think I will definitely not be doing the kale again since it seems to be the likely culprit.

Other than that, the day was good.

Weight: 268 (unofficial)

Consumed: Couple juices, a strawberry-kiwi virgin daiquiri, and lots of water.

Rating: 6/10

DAY 25

Busy day!  So got my juicer yesterday and got to use it today.  Started with some simple fruit juice for breakfast (with a cucumber which is also a fruit) and finished the day with some modified Mean Grean Juice.  I went to the local farmers' market and picked up some goodies to last me for a couple days.  It's pretty nearby so I will keep my supply fresh and just frequent the market when needed.

I had a salad and a couple apples today since it was midday and I had no juice and felt hungry.  Seemed like the right thing to do.  I also picked up a gallon jug of water from Publix and now I know for sure that I got my 128 ounces of water today! lol

I just got back from the awesome new community gym where I outdid myself from yesterday.  I was only there for 50 minutes compared to the hour.... but I got the treadmill up to 5mph and kept at it with a steady jog for a few minutes.  It was hard and the asthma started to creep up but felt good to move that fast again.

I've also been checking my BP lately with one of those fancy CVS manual sphygmomanometers (aka blood pressure checker) and it's nice to see my pressure drop a bit after a workout.  Normally it's pretty high- ranging around the 130/90 - 145/95 range at rest... and now it's hovering around 125/85.  It's not much, but I feel more relaxed and I'm going to link the two together.

Might even go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight.

Weight: 268lbs (unofficial)

Consumed: Water, Juice, Water, Salad/Apples, Water, Juice, and more water.

DAY 24

Great news everyone!  I FINALLY HAVE A JUICER!!!  So it's juice only until (at least) day 40... depending on what direction I want to go at that point.

Had a pretty good day today and it really felt good to get encouraging words from the folks that noticed my change in appearance since the beginning of this thing.  It's stuff like that, my bud Brian, and my own desire to hone my perseverance -and- prove to myself that "I can do it!".  I also upped the ante this afternoon when I got home from work and hit the gym for an hour of pretty intense walking with 30lbs worth of hand weights.  It was 'enlightening' to just feel again what I was carrying around every day just a few weeks ago.

Thanks to everyone who's chimed in and communicated in some way with us!  We hope to help spread the awesomeness of the 'Reboot Revolution' and the opportunity for anyone in any situation to embrace a life-changing through it!  Juice on!

Ok so I was a lazy couch potato last night and didn't post an update.  So here I have combined these together into one awesome post.  Our new video is up and we had a pretty good week of weight loss I am glad to report!  In other good news, Brian should be getting his juicer Monday (today'ish) and then I'll get to start juicing at home full time again!

If you haven't checked Brian's blog out yet, you should, it's LifeJourneyDestination2011.blogspot.com

DAY 21

It's Friday!  Which is always great!  Got some new camping gear and looking forward to an outing at some point.  I haven't been camping since I was in the Boy Scouts... way too many years ago.

Anyway.. another day of not eating as much as I should.  Just haven't been hungry to be honest.  I just stop by Kroger to grab some fruit when I get hungry and that's about it.  I worry I'm not consuming enough food as I should... but I'm gonna just stick with my gut feeling (pun intended) on this one.

Official Weigh-in tomorrow...

DAY 18

******* VIDEO UPDATE ********
Check it out here: DAY 17 - Juice Fast/Weight Loss

Finally finished the video from this weekend... it's a whole lot longer than we initially anticipated.  It was over an hour lol.  So today went pretty good except I strayed a slight bit and ate too much tonight.  It was salad... but I noticed that I was continuing to eat even after I was full.  This is the kind of thing that got me where I am today.  I will most likely gain weight from today's venture to the darkside... but I can't let that keep me down folks.

It's back on track for tomorrow!  I give you my word!

Thanks to everyone for their support and comments, I know I can speak for both Brian and I that it helps encourage us and keep us going through this new life journey to healthier living.

Weight: 276.5 (unofficial)

Consumed: Lean Green juice I threw together last night, a small bowl of fruit this morning, and way too much salad... 3 bowls worth... at least... :(

Rating: 7.5/10

DAY 17

Well some bad news folks... No video yet.  I'm too tired to string it together, but fear not, it will get done tomorrow evening!  Today went pretty good and I'm pretty sure I had way too much fruit today in relation to my veggie intake.  Could be the kiwis and virgin raw strawberry daiquiris today.

Got some juice for tomorrow (today actually lol) and some fruits to get me through.

Weight:  273lbs (unofficial)

Consumed:  Bunch of fruit and a salad

Rating: 9/10

DAY 16

Yes, I know I'm late with the update...  Fell asleep last night and been fairly lazy today lol.

Anyway... The day went well and getting to drink juice again this weekend was nice.  Felt good to take a nice day to go to church and rest for the remainder of the day.

DAY 15

Day 15!  One quarter the way through!  So.... Today went pretty good I've gotta say.  Got to juice all day today which was nice, and, got enough juice for tomorrow with plans to juice it up on Monday as well since it's Labor Day and I won't have to go home yet.

Went to the Super H Mart this morning and picked up a bunch of good greens and fruits.  After that Brian and I headed to my ma's home to juice up a batch of our new blend 'Lean Green' before heading down to the lake for an hour of swimming.

Finishing the day on a positive note!  We shot a new video... But will probably shoot an additional piece on Monday for the holiday and get that edited and on YouTube that night if all goes well.

DAY 12

Still.  No.  Juicer.

Looks like it may be another week too.  The good news is that I'll be headed back up this weekend and will get to enjoy juicing Saturday and Sunday.  We're kinda hoping against the odds that the juicer comes in Saturday... but I seriously doubt it.  Oh well.  Today I began to worry that I wasn't getting enough calories from just the fruits and veggies. As Joe pointed out early in the movie... the benefit to juicing is concentrating the nutrient goodness so that you don't have to eat platters of greens and such.  So to compensate I've upped the fruit intake and started to add some salad in (yes with some light dressing).  The salad has been pretty good.. mixed in Romaine, some other green leafy, baby spinach, carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower.

Now I don't feel like I'm just surviving on fruits, carrots, and broccoli... although I do rather enjoy those foods as well.

The downside to all this solid intake is that I can't say I'm juicing anymore, the build-up of solids in my gut is increasing my perceived weight, and I really feel bad that Brian is fully immersed in the "real deal" and here I am eating and chewing solid food again after only a week or so.  It's been somewhat disconcerting as I mentioned in my last post.

I really wish they would finish the gym renovations where I live so at least I can get some exercise in without strolling through the 'hood'.

Weight: 277.5

Consumed:  A few salads, a bowl of mixed fruit chunks/berries, a banana, and some carrots.

Rating: 8/10

DAY 11

Well day 11 has been kinda uncomfortable and counter-productive.  Still no word on the mystery missing juicer Brian was supposed to get weeks ago.  I can't afford to make the drives to his place to juice up.  I also can't keep drinking the bottles at the store that have great ingredients.. but is also pasteurized and filled with concentrated sweet fruit juice.  So For the last two days I've been eating solid food.. which isn't kosher for a juice fast.

I'm still sticking with the raw fruits and veggies... but now with the digestive system back in action I've gained a couple pounds since Sunday and thus am starting to feel somewhat disconcerted.  I'm sure it's mostly just what's being compiled in the digestive track... but not good for the numbers and just means I'll get to go through the no-solids cravings again once I start the juice again.  I really hope Brian gets his juicer soon.  Thanks Bed, Bath, and Beyond....

Weight: 276lbs (unofficial)

Consumed: A small romaine/tomato salad, a head of broccoli, a bowl of mixed fruit, a handful of carrots, and a bottle of bolthouse green juice.

Rating:  7/10

Monday, August 29, 2011

DAY 10

Well today was pretty great!  Had some good supportive comments from the people we work with at my job that noticed my loss.  I do, unfortunately, have some bad news.  I had to break from the strict 'juice only' component of the plan today.  I still haven't gotten the juicer yet and it's a bit much to make the run to Brian's (who's about 20+ miles away) to juice up a new batch.  Not to worry though, I stuck with lots of water, a banana, a head of raw broccoli, a hand juiced grapefruit, a bottle of bolthouse green something, a couple carrots, and I think that was it.

I am really banking on today being the last day of that.  I will probably run on a couple of the above items tomorrow for work in the hopes that I can go pick up the juicer from Brian's (and that he gets his delivered finally).  I am really looking forward to making my own juices here at home soon!

DAY 9

*******NEW VIDEO UPLOADED********
Link to the right------------>

Day 9 is finally over, been a rather long one and it's actually the start of day 10 as I write this.  I just uploaded our new video which includes some comments from both of us on how the first week went and the official weigh-in.  Today was good with little to no complications... although I feel that I didn't eat enough.  For the next day or so while we expect to get the juicer situation taken care of I may have to resort to some store bought veggie/fruit juice (Naked brand) and some solid food such as a banana as well as what juice I have from tonight. I'm trying to avoid the solids if I can though.

Weight: 284lbs (OFFICIAL) / 274.5 (unofficial)
Cumulative loss: 30lbs

Consumed:  A couple cups of veggie/fruit juice, a bottle of store bought veggie/fruit juice, and some fruit juice at the end of the day.  Not nearly as much as I'm sure I need and what I intended.

Rating: 8.5/10

DAY 8

Great day today... Finally lol.  Little to no pain, no hunger, minimal cravings, and all that jazz.

Brown and I shot a new video today including some remarks on our experiences through this first week and the results of our second official weigh-in.  I should have that video up tomorrow night.

Weight: 284 (official)

Consumed:  A couple original concoctions of juice, grapefruit juice, and plenty of water.

Rating:  8.5/10

DAY 7

Today was decent and I gotta say...each day I am feeling leaner and leaner!  The pains have gotten better and only my back still feels like it did before.  I ended up needing to punch a new hole into my belt and I'm fairly sure my pants won't be wearable but another week!

I was busy yesterday reorganizing my living room and ended up with a sneezing fit.  I just went straight to sleep after that.... hence the delayed post.

Official weigh-in and new video to shoot on Saturday!  Get psyched!

Weight: 279 (unofficial)

Consumed:  New mixed concoction of spinach, romaine, a few fruits, and carrots.  A Naked brand green machine juice.  A spinach, lemon, grapefruit, and banana smoothie.

Rating: 7.5/10

DAY 6

Today was the hardest day yet.  Back pain, abdominal pain, headache, light nausea, and general discontent.  Not sure why, but it's been rather unpleasant.

Weight unknown.

Rating: 4/10

DAY 5

Good day today with very light cravings.  Probably should've had more juice....but oh well lol.  I did have a lot of middle to upper back pain all day for some reason.

Weight:  unknown

Consumed:  Brian's custom carrot blend and a swiss chard and peach blend as well.

Rating:  7.5/10

DAY 4

Pretty good day today.  Hunger has for the most part subsided and I'm clearly able to recognize that my biggest issue is cravings for fast food.

I also believe that the juice doesn't hold up well for 72 hours.  So...while we continue to wait for the juicer thing to get sorted out...I will avoid storing juice for more than 24-48 hours.  Fresh is much more preferred.

Weight:  I'm away from the scale so weight unknown.

Consumed:  Today, I drank some of the remainder green juice, a new red cabbage blend and Brian's own plum/greens concoction.

Overall rating: 8/10

DAY 3

It's the end of day 3 and I'm pretty hungry... I think I can chop a portion of that up to the neighbors cooking up something that smells real good.

Had to return to work today... and in turn... faced fast food and snacks everywhere!  I held strong though and stuck to the juice!  Tomorrow I'll be finishing off what I have left and heading back to Brian's to juice up another batch to last me until the end of day Friday (or Saturday morning).

Experiencing some general aches and back pain today.  Could be the hunger or just my usual tension and issues.

Still going to call today a success!  Just hoping to get over the hunger soon.

DAY 2

*******VIDEO UPDATE*******  (see link to the right)

Day two is coming to an end.  Pretty hungry... and that urge to just say screw it and run to the Outback for a rack of baby back ribs, cheesy fries, a wallaby darned, and some dessert is really poking at me.

Not to worry.  There's no way I'm doing that any more.

On a sidenote I've noticed that my throat feels somewhat scratchy.  I don't know if it's from the juice, but it started last night.  I'm pretty sure I'm not coming down with something since it subsided this morning and it's better tonight than yesterday.

****Based on my previous weigh-in's (devoid of that heavy clothing - I know TMI) I have already lost a cumulative total of 20 pounds!  Yay!  However, since Brian and I are weighing in (officially) Saturdays at his crib (with all the cloth baggage), those will be our official counts.****

Weight:  284.4 (unofficial)

Consumed:  Green Juice (see jointhereboot.com for recipe listings) and an apple/pear/greens blend of my own concoction.  + Lots of water!

DAY 1

Today was officially the first day of the 60-day juice program!  It's had it's up's and downs, but successful none-the-less!

I crashed at Brian's place Friday night and we juiced a batch of this super beet'y juice in preparation for today.  We woke up before 6am and went to do some work for his church that took a couple hours.  I drank my beet drink... but I gotta say... it's not my cup of tea.  I don't think I'll be involving beets again lol.

Afterward we went to the Super H Mart (a local asian market) and collected a few days worth of veggies and fruits for juicing.

Later in the day I had to leave to go to mom's and come to find out that she's got a BBQ going on.

Talk about tough.

I trekked through and kept drinking the green kale fortified juice.  Never even took a taste of the aromatic and no-doubt delicious pork chops and fixings.

We recorded some video today that I will try to edit a bit together and post to YouTube tomorrow night.

Weight:  295.0 (OFFICIAL WEIGH-IN Aug. 20, 2011)

Consumed:  Green Juice (see jointhereboot.com for recipe listings) and an apple/pear/greens blend of my own concoction, as well as Carrot/Kale combo.

Day... Well Not Quite Yet... P3

Ugh.. really hating this wait for the juicer.  Creeping some more meat back into the diet until I can get it.  I feel like I've pigged out today, but in reality it's still a fraction of what I was eating before.  Ending the day with a slight headache.  The good news is that the 60-day plan has been officially moved to the 20th and even without the juicer, my buddy and myself will be juicing and storing every few days and I'll be packing several quarts to take home.

Start of Day Weight:  291.0

Consumed:  Not as much water as I know I need, dried pineapple bites, bunch of carrots, couple salads, 3 pork ribs, grilled chicken wrap, 1 banana, and a rather tasty Braeburn apple from Publix.

End of Day Weight: 292.2 (cumulative loss to date: 12.3lbs)

Day... Well Not Quite Yet... P2

Today was pretty good... even though I haven't gotten the juicer yet.  I'm hoping this all serves to rebuild my way of thinking toward food so that once the 'juice fast' is over I don't slip into the old me.  I have also been entertaining the idea of a video blog to add in conjunction with this one.

Start of Day Weight:  289.8

Consumed:  See my 'Sidenotes' blog for what I ate and details: Sidenotes!

End of Day Weight: 290.8 (cumulative loss to date: 13.7lbs)

Day... Well Not Quite Yet...

Ok so it looks like it may be even longer before I can get my juicer. Does that mean I'm going to forego eating healthy until then?  No, of course not!  Instead I will be eating small healthy items keeping my daily caloric intake to a reasonable 500-700 calories.

Today's intake consisted of:

1 Banana (105Cal)
2 Peanut Butter Crackers (~70Cal)
1 Fresco Style Chicken Soft Taco (Taco Bell) (150Cal)
1 Small Side Salad (Wendy's) (~200Cal)

total: ~500 Calories.

I think this was pretty reasonable... and keeps me from starving myself unnecessarily until I can really start my 60-day juicing adventure.  I will be continuing my daily updates as usual.  I have also considered including morning blood-pressure readings as well.

Preparatory Day 5 of 5

Today went pretty good.  Got out and did some stuff today and wasn't hungry for the most part.  I probably ate more today than I have for the last 5 days.  I suspect it's due to the psychological weight of knowing it's my last bit of solid food for 60-days.

Start of Day Weight:  unknown

Consumed:  Some amount of water, 1 plum, 1 peach, a small bowl of light caesar salad, small bowl of raw baby carrots, and my splurge:  heated up can of diced tomatoes and chilli peppers with some soda crackers.

It wasn't much, but I probably shouldn't have eaten that last bit.  Oh well.
On a side note... unfortunately I wasn't able to get the juicer I was expecting to get this weekend, so hopefully it will become available this week.  In the meantime it will be only be bottled veggie/fruit juice from the organic isle and minimal solid veggies.

End of Day Weight: 291.2 (cumulative loss to date: 13.3lbs)
Overall Daily Rating:    8.5/10

Preparatory Day 4 of 5

Today was pretty good, the hunger is a little better, and I'm feeling fairly good.  Unfortunately, I haven't been able to secure the juicer I was expecting to get this weekend... So I may have to pick up some juices from Whole Food next week.

Start of Day Weight:  unknown

Consumed:  70oz of Water (one cup with fiber added), 1 banana, half of a granola bar, cup of carrots, 1 small pickle, and a Taco Bell bean burrito fresco style.

I also had a 30-minute brisk walk this afternoon which felt pretty good.

I splurged for the burrito...and...I'm not sure my stomach was ready for that.  At least I only used half of the wrap right?

«I should note that I'm away from home this weekend so I can't weigh-in until Sunday night.»

End of Day Weight: unknown (cumulative loss to date: 9.5lbs)

Overall Daily Rating:    8.5/10

Preparatory Day 3 of 5.

Been a little hungrier today, continuing to reduce caloric intake.

Start of Day Weight:  unknown

Consumed:  80oz of Water (one cup with fiber added), 1 banana, 2 dishes of baby carrots with some light ranch, and a few black cherries.

I also took the dogs out for a 30-minute walk... so trying to mix in some more physical activity.

«I should note that I'm away from home this weekend so I can't weigh-in until Sunday night.»

End of Day Weight: unknown (cumulative loss to date: 9.5lbs)

Overall Daily Rating:    7.5/10

Preparatory Day 2 of 5

Today, much like yesterday was another light day.

Start of Day Weight:  297.6

Consumed:  80oz of Water (one cup with fiber added), 7 carrots, one banana, and a grilled chicken caesar salad.

I think the chicken salad will be the last bit of meat I'll consume prior to the 60 days.  Spent some time pretty hungry today, but have felt pretty satisfied since the chicken salad.  I also plan on working in some walking tomorrow to get myself prepared for the fitness plan I've set for the next 60 days as well.

End of Day Weight: 295.0 (cumulative loss to date: 9.5lbs)

Overall Daily Rating:    8/10

Preparatory Day 1 of 5

Today I began to reduce my caloric intake and increase fluid/raw food intake.

Start of Day Weight: 304.5lbs.

Consumed: 60oz of Water (one cup with fiber added), 2 servings of  'Naked Juice' Green Machine, 1 serving yogurt, 1 banana, 3 carrots, and a grilled chicken caesar salad.

While the salad wasn't optimum (nor in any way organic) as well as sugary yogurt... it's definitely an improvement to my regular diet and a step to adjust to my upcoming juice-only diet.

Feelings and Observations:  I've felt pretty hungry at several points throughout the day, but I feel this is mostly due to the massive change from my regular intake quantity.  Some gas and frequent urination.

End of Day Weight: 297.7

Overall Daily Rating:   8/10   (10 being great and 1 being 'please shoot me right now')

--A GENESIS-- (Aug. 10, 2011)

Dear Blog,

After watching "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" with my closest friend and fellow overweight compatriot Brian, we've decided to take the same 60-day challenge as Joe Cross in order to 'reboot' and hopefully get the scores of extra poundage off.  We picked Aug. 15th until Oct. 15 for the start/stop dates (yes, I'm aware that's actually 62 days... but the numbers are easier this way).

I've researched a bit and have seen the arguments from both sides of the table regarding the "Juice Fasting" diet that we'll be undertaking.  Both of us were once relatively in-shape, healthy, and even active youngsters involved in various forms of martial arts.  Unfortunately, bad habits and lack of self-discipline got us off-track from healthy living and into the world of obesity.  A place a great number of people find themselves in today.

So... Aug. 15th will mark the end of that chapter and the beginning to one that is healthier; and, the one God intends for all of us to live.

This will serve as my personal chronicle of the journey ahead.
